The Spitsbergen Marathon is a popular race that attracts long-distance runners from Norway and many other countries. Every year on the first weekend of June, runners from all over the world gather in Longyearbyen to participate in the world's northernmost marathon on solid ground. Runners can choose between three distances: marathon, half marathon, and the Spitsbergen Mile (10 km). The full marathon course consists of two laps of the half marathon route, and the surface is a mix of gravel and asphalt.
